Breath of My Heart is built around meeting the needs of families before, during, and after birth. Our goal is to give clients the support, education and attentive midwifery care that will help them achieve a safe and satisfying birth experience and transition in parenting; whether it be the first time or a new addition to your family.
Licensed midwives are specially trained to meet the needs of clients birthing at home or in the birth center. We use non-invasive exams of parent and baby, routine blood work, and communication with parents as our primary tools for providing care. Ample time is taken with clients and their loved ones before the birth in order to build a relationship of respect and trust upon which we can provide the highest quality care. Throughout care we share information about risks and benefits of procedures to make sure that all decisions are made collaboratively and reflect the needs and desires of clients while ensuring safety for mother and baby
Midwifery care is offered on the following schedule:
- Prenatal appointments: Once a month until 28 weeks, every 2 weeks until 36 weeks and once a week from 36 weeks until the birth.
- In the case of a planned home birth, a visit to your home before the birth to plan with the birth team.
- Care at your home or the clinic during labor, birth and the hours immediately after birth.
- Postpartum visits for parent and baby in your home at 1-day, 3-days, 1-week and 2-weeks after the birth.
- A final 6-week office visit for parent and baby.

Are you interested in Doula Care?
It is our hope that in the future Breath of My Heart will be able to offer doula care as part of our birth services. In the meantime, we have a current list of recommended local community doulas that were trained through the Yiya Vi Kagingdi Doula Project led by our partner organization Tewa Women United. The process of finding the right doula is a very personal one. As such, we encourage you to meet with different doulas to find one that resonates well with you and who you believe will best meet the needs of your family.
Additionally, many of our staff members are doulas which helps inform our knowledge and understanding of the importance of having doulas for fulfilling, successful births. You’re welcomed to contact them individually – see our Provider page for info.
