Although Breath of My Heart Birthplace doesn’t currently offer doula support as part of our services, we honor and support our community’s local doulas. Below is a list of Tewa Women United‘s Yiya Vi Kagingdi Full Spectrum Community Doula Training graduates serving the Española Valley. Please feel free to reach out to them individually if you’re seeking doula services.

Beata Tsosie-Peña
Beata is from Santa Clara Pueblo and El Rito and is certified as an Educator, Infant Massage Instructor (includes special needs and drug exposed considerations), Developmental Specialist, and in Indigenous Sustainable Design (permaculture). She worked for over a decade in the Environmental Health and Justice program for Tewa Women United. She is currently working as the Organizational Director for Breath of My Heart Birthplace. Her Jiya Vi Kagindi (Tewa for “Helper of the Mother”) birthworker training includes full spectrum and pregnancy loss, lactation counseling, and uses a reproductive justice frame that is inclusive of all families in various stages of their pregnancy journey. Sandy Martinez
Sandy Martinez is a Hispanic woman born in Albuquerque, NM and raised in Española. She is a proud young parent of 2, giving birth to her first daughter in the summer of 2016 and her second daughter at home in 2018. She runs a support group through Breath of My Heart Birthplace and is passionate about advocacy for young parents and reproductive rights in the Espanola Valley. Sandy is qualified to provide full-spectrum doula support, has experience in lactation education and is a facilitator of Circle of Security. You can contact her at san.doulala@gmail.com

Jenny Rizzo
Jenny is from Kansas City MO. She now lives in the Española Valley, on an off-grid fruit farm where her daughter was born in 2016. She is a bodyworker, an herbalist, and a yoga practitioner. Her background with plants, movement, massage, and motherhood weave into her role and offerings as a doula. She is honored to witness and support families as their birthing journey unfolds. Autumn Gomez
Autumn is a full-spectrum doula of Taos Pueblo and Comanche descent. Born and raised in Northern New Mexico, Autumn is dedicated to providing compassionate, non-judgemental care to expecting parents. She has been trained to provide prenatal, continuous labor, post-partum, and abortion care.

F.A. Marie (They/Them)
F.A. Marie is passionate about reproductive choices, resources and support for all bodies. Doula support and perinatal care. Offering doula support in the areas of reproductive choices and autonomy, preconception, fertility, conception, ICI, IUI, IVF, pregnancy, labor, postpartum, body feeding, miscarriage, abortion, trans, non binary, queer, intersex, transition, trauma informed, disability, fat positive. They serve clients virtually and locally. They offer in person support in New Mexico and communities close to New Mexico. It’s important for everyone who wants a doula to have a doula and for this reason they have a sliding scale 0.00- 2000.00, no one turned away for lack of funds. They’re currently offering doula services FOR FREE to three birthing families as part of their reciprocity commitment.
