Call for Midwife Applicants

Come join our team of Midwives to deliver respectful and culturally responsive midwifery care in rural New Mexico. Breath of My Heart is hiring a full-time staff midwife to work with in our home birth and Birth Center practice in Espanola NM. Join our mission to center the needs of Indigenous, immigrant, LGBTQ, Young and POC parents in midwifery care! BIPOC, queer and trans midwives and Spanish speaking midwives are highly encouraged to apply.

Minimum qualifications: 

  • NM licensed midwife (or eligible)
  • BLS, NRP, IV certified
  • Background clearance
  • Comfortable practicing in Home and Birth Center settings
  • Commitment to anti-racism and decolonizing healthcare models
  • Committed to providing safe and welcoming care to people across the gender spectrum 
  • Ethical communication skills and a willingness to engage with a team
  • Live within 20 minutes of Espanola or a willingness to relocate
  • Proficient in Electronic Medical Records or willing to learn
  • Understanding of HIPPA regulations and commitment to the protection of client information
  • Excited to train apprentices and other assistants
  • Willing to be flexible in team roles and responsibilities and changes in schedule
  • Active drivers license and reliable mode of transportation
  • Trained in or willing to learn about how to deliver trauma informed and trauma responsive care

Job responsibilities:

  • Share call shifts with a 3-midwife team
  • Rotating clinical care days including in home and in clinic appointments
  • Attend births in the birth center and births at home
  • Provide continuity of care in transfer situations 
  • Participate in staff meetings, team projects and organizational programming
  • Participate in social justice training as scheduled
  • Supervise, train and provide feedback to students and assistants
  • Maintain professional reputation in community and within social media platforms
  • Maintenance and care of the clinical facility 

Physical demands:

  • Standing, sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling and reaching
  • Moderate lifting including loading and unloading birth equipment and supplies and birth tub set up and tear down
  • Sleep deprivation
  • Working on a computer for long periods
  • Working in low light settings 
  • Night driving
  • Wearing PPE for long periods of time including a face mask, face shield and gloves
